All night long: hundreds wait in line for Istanbul’s first Apple StoreA line eventually growing to include to hundreds of people began forming Friday night outside Turkey’s first Apple store, which opened Saturday.

According to Turkish news reports, people first began standing in line at about 9 p.m. on Friday at the Zorlu Center mall in İstanbul, and hundreds waited all night for the opening of the store, which unlocked its doors at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. Some Apple product enthusiasts even traveled from the southern province of Adana to İstanbul for the store’s opening.

The new store, which encompasses 20,000 square feet and is spread over two floors, features an all-glass exterior and was built using more glass than any other Apple store. Apple CEO Tim Cook was expected to make an appearance at the opening but ended up not attending. Steve Cano, Apple’s vice president of retail operations, attended in his place.

The store is the 424th Apple store to open worldwide. Its 100 employees underwent a year of training prior to the opening.

Consumer electronics giant Apple is the largest publicly traded company in the world based on market capitalization.
