Etisalat helps shape the region’s Broadband Future; partnered Broadband World Forum MEA 2011
As the Strategic Operator Partner, Etisalat participated in the Broadband World Forum MEA 2010, one of the region’s most important assemblies on broadband technologies.
Pioneering the leading-edge fixed and mobile broadband technology locally and regionally, Etisalat’s contribution to the event was showcased through Etisalat’s experiences in the deployment of the Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) as well as through strategic insight from Etisalat experts on the future of broadband technologies. As of today, the UAE prides on having the first capital city in the world that is 100% fiber-connected and has an ambitious plan to cover the whole of the UAE, reaching more than 700,000 homes in the country by the end of 2011.
In this congregation of the region’s top minds including regulatory decision makers, industry leaders and innovators, Fahem Salim Al Nuaimi, Vice President Program Management Office & Budgets, Etisalat, discussed the key benefits of deploying the fiber-optic network. He elaborated on the strategies for roll-out plans and shared Etisalat’s experiences in fiber-optic deployment. He also explained the full service-oriented architecture for fiber-optic network.
Fahem highlighted on the Internet usage trends in recent times and Etisalat’s decision to implement a fiber-optic network for homes and businesses to provide a full range of services to meet the customers’ growing demands. “As the broadband revolution accelerates the world over and in the UAE, we are witnessing an ever-increasing demand from customers for greater connectivity and faster speeds, anytime, anywhere. Through a mix of advanced broadband technologies, Etisalat has already embarked upon this process and its advanced nation-wide fiber roll-out, as well as LTE (4G) deployment, will add significant value to customers’ lifestyles, enabling them to achieve much more than what is possible today”, Fahem added.
“In line with our vision for the nation and the region in general, we are pleased to partner the Broadband World Forum MEA and bring to this event our experiences and insights that will assist in laying out the future roadmap of broadband infrastructure development for the entire region”, he concluded.
Presenting at the conference, Etisalat’s Juan Jose de la Torre Ch, Group Strategy & Planning Director, discussed the enabling of Digital Home through High-Speed Fixed Broadband. He highlighted the evolution of fixed broadband, devices and convergence; applications and content; and the road ahead in making the concept of digital homes a reality.
Etisalat was first in the UAE to introduce HSPA and HSPA+ broadband technologies providing downlink speeds of up to 42MBps to customers. It is also the first in the region to roll-out in the UAE the Long Tern Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband technology, which is considered to be the next big wave in fourth generation (4G) wireless technology.
Broadband World Forum MEA, in its eleventh successful year, is the most coveted forum that explores the dynamic developments within the Middle East’s broadband ecosystem and builds upon the existing broadband potential globally.
