Khalid Athar, the publisher and Chief Editor of Teletimes International, is a veteran journalist with more than three decades’ experience in journalism, editorship, mass communication, and business development.
Mr. Athar earned his master’s degree in Mass Communications from the Karachi University and started his career in 1977. Until 1991, he worked with some of Pakistan’s largest and most influential newspaper groups at senior positions. Some of these groups include the Jang Group, the Nawa-e-Waqt Group and the Dawn Group. Concurrently, he worked for the World Service of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC).
Khalid is the owner and chief executive of Pakistan-International Press Agency (PPA), a news agency in Pakistan, which is also the publisher of all PPA publications projects, including Teletimes International magazine and Solidarity magazine, both of which were launched in 2006.
From 1994 to 2004, Mr. Athar anchored and moderated one of Pakistan’s leading talk shows, broadcasted by Pakistan’s national TV station, Pakistan Television Corporation. Mr. Athar was also a prominent participant in the United Kingdom-based current affairs programs, broadcasted by Prime TV, Vectone TV and ARY Digital during his overseas stay in Europe.
Khalid is the author of eleven books and has covered a myriad of social and cultural issues and subject matter. In July 2004, his meritorious journalistic services for the Asian community residing in the United Kingdom were recognized at the House of Lords, London, United Kingdom, by Lord Ahmed of Rotherham.
Mr. Khalid Athar has visited several countries, including United States, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Turkey, India, Morocco, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, and Nepal as a journalist and has also participated in numerous international conferences and seminars.
Khalid Athar is the member of the Awards Evaluation Committee of SAMENA Telecommunications Council.
