The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority participates in the 7th Anti-Commercial Fraud Exhibition
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announces its participation in the Anti-Commercial Fraud Exhibition, which was organized by the Department of Economic Development. Taking place from 8th to 18th December, the exhibition will be held in several areas of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, including both Abu Dhabi and Al Ain city, as well as the Western Region.
The TRA’s participation in the exhibition stems out of the responsibility to fight against all forms of commercial fraud, where the visions and goals of the exhibition are compatible with the direction of TRA in launching periodic campaigns to monitor the mobile phones and ICT related products’ markets. The inspection teams at TRA, in cooperation with their strategic partners, have carried out over 163 campaigns throughout this year, in a range of stores, warehouses and unlicensed apartments. They were capable of confiscating large quantities of counterfeit and contraband devices, amounting to approximately 23,000 mobile devices.
“We are keen to strengthen cooperation ties with strategic partners to serve the objective of sustainable development in the UAE. The fight against commercial fraud and detecting counterfeit products is a major factor in promoting global business confidence with an investment climate that is distinguished in the nation. Thus, maintaining the prestige and good reputation that the UAE is recognized for on the global economy chart,” said H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of TRA.
“The subject of monitoring markets and products related to the ICT sector is of urgent priority to us out of our commitment to the rights of traders, the preservation of the quality of services provided and the privacy and confidentiality of user data. We will continue to work in this path on a wider range through expanding our network with entities and stakeholders, including the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi,” he added.
Conversely, the exhibition’s activities include displaying original and counterfeit products, including mobile phones. In addition, awareness campaigns were conducted and aimed at consumers to inform them of the fake goods and their negative impact on their health and the overall economy. The TRA will organize several competitions to assist in raising consumer awareness, on detecting counterfeit and prohibited devices. In the long term, this will contribute to the reduction of the dissemination of devices unapproved by TRA, through exposing people with TRA’s vision and role in protecting the nation’s telecommunications sector.
