The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), represented by the UAE Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT), a TRA initiative, conducted a lecture in Al Dhaid Youth Center of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah. The lecture took place on Wednesday, 30 March 2011, at 17:30 by Eng. Ali Alamadi, Incident Handler and Threat Analyst – aeCERT.
The lecture, which was themed on Management Development and e-government, opened with a brief about aeCERT as an advisory body that aims to sustain a resilient and vigilant ICT infrastructure against a broader set of cyber security threats and to build a secure and safe cyber culture in the United Arab Emirates.
“The TRA initiated Computer National Emergency Team (aeCERT) to be a leading, trusted and secure cyber coordination center in the region and to facilitate the detection, prevention and response of cyber security incidents on the Internet” said Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General.
“We are eager to spread ICT knowledge and cyber security awareness across the UAE. aeCERT is continuously conducting a broad array of activities related to online and personal security, protecting data and cyber threats.” Al Ghanim added.
In his lecture, Eng. Ali Alamadi highlighted the e-services offered by e-government in the UAE and its role in facilitating the migration of many tasks to online and the resulting time-savings e-government offers citizens. He also referred to the initiative for “Management Development” as a vital tool to enhance the UAE leadership.
The lecture reviewed many types of cyber crimes such as website and e-mail hacking, malware, phishing and theft of online information. Applying online security best practices to protect e-mail, mobile phone, PC and social networking accounts were also discussed. The target audience was the youth from 15 to 18 years old and IT instructors in the center.
