Algeria: Algerie Telecom has resumed service for 3,700 of 29,833 disactivated fixed phone lines in Oran after customers agreed to pay their outstanding debt under the “Seheli” instalment programme launched last October, El Moudjahid reports. The operator told the newspaper that most customers who have not paid their phone bills are businesses. So far, Algerie Telecom has recovered over DZD 21.5 million of an estimated DZD 367 million in unpaid bills, or 5.86 percent. The operator cut service to customers who had not paid their bills for six months. The Sehelli programme will remain in place until 1 March. It allows customers to resume telephony service and open an ADSL line when they pay the first instalment. Subsccibers are offered a modem for 512 kbps or 1 Mbps internet service.
