Chilean telecommunications regulator Subtel will announce the winner of the tender for the implementation of an emergency SMS alert system in April. The service is scheduled for launch at the end of this year, Estrategia Online reports, citing Pedro Pablo Errazuriz, Chile’s minister of telecommunications. The system will be later expanded to the TV service, following the implementation of the DTT technology. “We hope that the law will be approved next week by the House of Representatives”, the minister added. Subtel targets DTT service coverage of 85 percent of Chile’s territory over the next three years, to reach 100 percent coverage by 2015.
