On their penultimate day of the first stage of Nawras Goodwill Journey 7, the team of caring volunteers travelled south from Khasab in the Musandam region, to Ibri, in the Dakhiliyah governorate, to continue spreading joy and happiness for the area’s children and family members. This year’s theme of sustainable employment opportunities for women was evident during the reception held at the Omani Women’s Association (OWA), in Yanqul, on Tuesday.
Thrilled with excited anticipation, nursery and primary school children, together with family members, staff, volunteers and the Chairwoman of OWA, Yanqul, Afrah bint Khamis al Alawi, greeted members of the Nawras team and their accompanying delegation of scouts, guides and members of the press corps.
The children happily took part in games and competitions organised by the Goodwill Journey volunteers who gave out gifts and prizes galore. Meanwhile, a whole host of items, ranging from electronic equipment and office furniture to laptops and sewing machines were presented to OWA Yanqul as Nawras continued its seventh caring mission during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Khalid bin Ali al Zadjali, team leader of Goodwill Journey 7, explained that each of the OWA’s ten branches is having libraries built for them by Nawras. “The libraries will be furnished with educational books, in both Arabic and English languages and each Association is also being given laptops, besides other items that vary according to the specific needs in each location,” he said.
An important part of Nawras’ corporate social responsibility programme, the Goodwill Journey reaches out to those are most in need by providing practical assistance for unemployed women in order to empower them with the tools to become productive and, thus, allowing them to positively contribute to their local communities.
