and Telecom Mr. Saeed Ahmad Khan has inaugurated an application enabling general public, telecom operators and investors, to view availability of telecom services coverage all across Pakistan. The application named “Pakistan Telecommunication Coverage Footprint” has been developed by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and is available on its website (www.pta.gov.pk). The Secretary inaugurated this application during his visit to PTA Headquarters today. Chairman PTA Dr. Mohammed Yaseen Member Technical Dr. Khawar Siddique Khokhar and senior officers of the Authority were also present during the visit.
On this occasion, Chairman PTA briefed the Secretary about the latest developments taking place in the telecom industry and the Secretary appreciated the role of PTA in the development of Telecom sector in Pakistan. Later, the Secretary inaugurated the “Pakistan Telecommunication Coverage Footprint”.
This is fully interactive application allowing users to zoom in and dynamically plot the coverage of telecom services in graphical format. This application has been categorized into four major services broadband, cellular, FFL (Fixed Line Loop) and WLL (Wireless Local Loop) which are further bifurcated into technologies and number of PTA licensees. This user friendly application gives the flexibility to select any one of the telecom service like GSM, DSL, EVDO. Similarly user can view coverage of particular operator in particular city through the coverage map.
By using this application general public can view the growth in mobile and fixed line services all along the country including Azad Jammu and Kashmir. It would be helpful for those people who are planning to visit remote areas, whether coverage of the particular telecom service for particular operator is available in that area or not. It is worth mentioning that this type of applications is first in the public sector of Pakistan.
