Al Ghanim: The new system is the first of its kind in the Middle East and second in the world
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) launches a new spectrum management system in the UAE; the new system is the first of its kind in the Middle East and the second most up-to-date and powerful in the world in the area of spectrum management. This step comes in line with the strategy of the UAE Government, which aims to shift to electronic government and it also reflects that the TRA is keen to keep up with the latest developments in the field of telecommunications and customer service.
The new system will contribute to save lot of time and effort for the TRA clients who are wishing to obtain spectrum permits, where they can apply online through the TRA website. Clients need to register for a username; fill out the forms prepared for this purpose and follow-up the status of the application.
For more convenience, the system will allow clients to submit applications and obtain permits from outside the country by following the same procedures. The new system offers many other advantages, such as saving cost, including papers and documents. It also helps to reduce the proportion of human errors, in addition to its ability to save and archive documents electronically.
H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of the TRA commented on the launch of the new system, saying: “Since its inception in 2004, TRA was keen to acquire the latest version of spectrum management systems. National cadres have been trained to use and master the system. We are proud that the management and staff were able to crystallize the idea of developing the current system to reach the highest standards of quality and efficiency.”
A team of TRA engineers and technicians developed a complete plan to modernize the system and follow up its installation with the manufacturer. The plan has been done through developing ideas and studying options and specifications that can be applied to meet all the expectations of the TRA and to serve the community optimally.
For his part, Engineer Tariq Al Awadhi, TRA Executive Director of Spectrum and International Affairs expressed his pride to launch the system by a local team without using any foreign expertise. He also articulated his thanks and appreciation to H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, and the distinguished TRA Board of Directors due to their continuous support and encouragement to the spectrum management staff, which encourage them to excellence.
