In its capacity as the only World Summit Award (WSA) representative in the UAE, the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) announces the opening of nominations for the World Summit Award E-Content competition. The competition aims to find the best and most creative e-content applications that promote the effective use of Information & Communications Technology. The WSA is looking for innovative e-content applications that contribute to building a comprehensive information society.
To submit an application, participants should have a project that has been developed in the UAE, regardless of whether the content is created in Arabic or English and regardless of the size and techniques of the project. The applicant should be the owner of copyright, including photos, audio and visual media.
H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General said, “WSA presents great opportunity for local e-content developers as it grants them the chance to compete peers from all over the world. TRA is the only entity that represents the UAE at the WSA.”
H.E. added: “WSA competition for E-Content has many categories that developers can participate in. The TRA will form a committee to judge the submitted applications according to WSA criteria in order to choose the best applications that will represent the country at the worldwide competition to be judged in Hong Kong in April 2011.”
The WSA, organized by the International Center for New Media (ICNM) in Salzburg, has started in 2003 as part of the UN’s World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). It is a global initiative to select and promote the world’s best e-content and innovative ICT applications. To date, more than 160 countries are actively involved.
Through national pre-selections and contests and a global jury process, WSA demonstrates the local diversity and rich creativity of ICT use. WSA is a global hub for everyone who values the crucial importance of local content to make today’s information society more inclusive.
