Chinese mobile telecommunications equipment provider Huawei aims to increase its research and development (R&D) operations in Turkey. In its 10th year, the Chinese company is planning to up the scale of its software development efforts in the country, currently undertaken by its R&D lab in Istanbul, to become one of the top software exporters in Turkey.
Huawei’s Istanbul facility is the second largest among the company’s 20 R&D labs outside China, employing 350 engineers in software development, according to Huawei Turkey Director Kamil Sahin.
“Huawei Turkey focuses on innovative software solutions for mobile operators, as well as providing support for Huawei customers worldwide,” said Sahin. “Our software development is geared towards the improvement of mobile operators by providing them value added services and business support systems. We are also engaged in pre-product research of social networks and smart calling technologies in coordination with Huawei’s other R&D labs,” he noted.
Staffed by a young and talented work force of 350 engineers and 150 support personnel, the Huawei R&D center takes advantage of the country’s high-quality R&D resources and geographical advantage of being the intersection of Europe, Asia, and Africa. Huawei offers services to 45 of the world’s leading telecom operators and has users in more than 140 countries.
