du appoints new Company Secretary

Two years after joining the Corporate Governance and Board Relations team in du, Emirati Hanan Ahmad succeeds Mahmood Ahmad as Company Secretary
du’s Chairman of the Board of Directors has appointed Hanan Ahmad as Company Secretary, taking up the much-coveted position held by Mahmood Ahmad.
Ms. Ahmad joined the company in 2010 in the Corporate Governance and Board Relations team and during her mere two years assuming that position, she managed to make a strong contribution to du’s fast-growing development. Her role entailed reviewing matters of corporate governance for the company and managing the Audit and Investment Committee of the Board.
To date, her key achievements at du include launching a fully-fledged corporate governance section on the company’s website; ensuring the progress of governance; establishing an electronic platform for Share Dealing; and introducing new policies such as the Board of Directors Performance Evaluation, the Disclosure Policy, and initiating a Board of Directors workshop.
It was precisely Hanan Ahmad’s vital efforts in improving du’s Corporate Governance initiatives which helped place the company at #1 in the S&P/Hawkamah Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) Index 2011. In 2010, she was instrumental in launching the Corporate Governance section on du’s website –a hugely successful endeavour which led to the company’s #5 place on S&P/Hawkmah’s ranking.
“I would like to congratulate Hanan Ahmad for her appointment and express gratitude to Mahmood Ahmed for his dedication and commitment throughout the years,” said Osman Sultan, Chief Executive Officer, du. “du employees are selected based on their utmost level of professionalism and expertise as well as distinct personalities. At du, we continue to offer a challenging and rewarding work environment for all employees. Considering Hanan’s strong credentials, we are confident she will bring in a fresh perspective and contribute to the growth and development of the company.”
Reacting to her appointment, Hanan Ahmad said: “We are at an exciting growth phase and I feel truly honoured to be given this opportunity to contribute to the organisation in the capacity of Company Secretary. It’s an immense responsibility and I am thankful to the Board for recognising my efforts.”
Ahmad holds a BA Degree in Business Administration from the UK and her previous professional experience includes a stint at Dubai Group, in Dubai and the UK.
