Barcelona, Spain: Etisalat has closed its most successful participation in Mobile World Congress 2012, the global event for the telecommunications industry held annually in Barcelona, Spain.
In addition to being honoured by three GSMA Global Mobile Awards this year in the telecommunications sector, Etisalat also announced the successful completion of a technology trial in partnership with Alcatel-Lucent to make lightning-fast data connection over Etisalat’s commercial 4G LTE network.
The trial marked the first mobile broadband connection made in the United Arab Emirates over a fully functional 4G LTE network. Etisalat used Alcatel-Lucent’s lightRadio Small Cell architecture to provide hot-spot coverage in densely populated areas such as shopping malls, airports and sports stadia.
An MoU was signed between Etisalat and Microsoft on the launch of new Windows Phone software with smartphone devices from selected manufacturers that are targeted at businesses and consumers in the Middle East and Africa region. The agreement also aims to facilitate developers to create and publish applications on marketplace.
Additionally Etisalat participated this year to the MWC conference with several papers : the first on “The management of data intelligently for smartest partnerships” .The second paper was on Mobile baby and how Etisalat has harnessed technology to save the lives of pregnant mothers in emerging markets and last paper on Etisalat`s vision ‘broadband for all’ .
Comenting on this aprticpation H.E. Ahmad AbdulKarim Julfar, Etisalat Group Chief Executive , said: “Mobile World Congress is the marketplace for the global telecommunications industry ;not only did we demonstrate world leading technology development, but we were also recognised as global telecoms leaders by winning three GSMA Global Mobile Awards.
He added “These awards came as a a true translation for the successful growth and expansion strategy Etisalat is prusing in emerging markets across the Middle East, Africa and Asia,besides the impact and transformational effect of innovations in charging economic and social development in the communities we serve.”
It is to be mentioned that Etisalat won two GSMA awards in the ‘Best Mobile Health Innovation’ and ‘mWomen Best Mobile Product’ categories for its mobile health innovation Etisalat Mobile Baby that is helping to combat maternal mortality in developing countries. The Etisalat Commerce platform which won the ‘Best Mobile Money Innovation’ award makes financial services accessible to millions of people, especially the un-banked and under-banked, across the region.
At the end Etisalat`s delegation met with number of companies such mobile phones manufacturer, networks and applications for mutual cooperation and interests. Alternatively, the delegation had held several meetings with regulators and global communication companies which will contribute to create many outstanding opportunities ahead in various fields.
