Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, is set to climb the ranks of the UAE handset market as the company announces the official release of its much anticipated Huawei Ascend P1 smartphone now available in retailers across the country.
The launch marks the first Huawei smartphone to be introduced regionally under the company’s new Ascend Platinum series (denoted by the “P1”) which comes fully-loaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and features a powerful dual-core 1.5GHz processor with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with Corning® Gorilla® Glass.
Despite being a relative newcomer to the mobile phone business, the global technology giant has revealed ambitious plans to establish itself as one of the top five global smartphone vendors within the next two years—reaching top three status by 2015.
“By solidifying strong ties within the industry to create an open and cooperative value chain process for our products, we believe that Huawei’s long-standing strengths in research and development (R&D) are now being showcased more distinctly and competitively through the launch of our Ascend Platinum series,” said Mr. Jiao Jian, Middle East President of Huawei Device. “Furthermore, UAE vibrant market for consumer electronics is one in which we feel that Huawei can succeed in offering the latest technology innovations coupled with robust media applications and a particular emphasis on chic model designs.”
Delivering the ultimate in elegance and speed with a 1670 mAh battery packed into a sleek 7.69 mm body, the Huawei Ascend P1 series provides one of the fastest multi-tasking, video replay and gaming experience in its class.
The Ascend P1 further brings the digital world to life with its impressive 8-megapixel BSI rear-facing and 1.3-megapixel HD front-facing cameras, with dual flash LED and HDR effect optimization. The Ascend P1 allows users to capture special moments in sharper, brighter and clearer detail via its stunning 1080p HD video-capture capabilities. Its high-speed data connectivity and built-in social media capabilities also enables users to instantly share photos and videos anytime, anywhere.
Within the Middle East, Huawei Device has focused on strengthening its regional distribution partnerships over the last year, and has successfully introduced a number of local smartphone models. Earlier this spring for example, Huawei introduced its first two smartphones to the Qatar market—the Huawei X5 and Huawei IDEOS—through distribution partner Informatica Qatar (iQ). Breaking even Huawei expectations, both product lines sold out; three months’ worth of estimated retail stock going after just three weeks in stores. Similar demand was seen following the release of the Huawei Honor smartphone in KSA, where again three months’ stock was sold out inside of a month.
