Russian operator VimpelCom has awarded a five-year contract to Huawei to manage part of its integrated telecommunications network. Under the deal, Huawei will be responsible for the multi-vendor, multi-technology fixed and mobile technology networks, covering the Volga and Far East regions of the company.
The agreement will see VimpelCom transferring its nearly 1,300 employees. The contract also comprises of network management, including multi-vendor operations and maintenance, field operations, in addition to spare parts management and network assurance.
Anton Kudryashov, head of the Russia business unit and general director at VimpelCom, said: “We are certain that this large-scale cooperation with Huawei will strengthen our position and help us to achieve our targets.”
Xiong Lening, Huawei’s president in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Armenia, said: “The partnership with VimpelCom in the field of managed services is strategically important for us and we are honoured to be trusted by our customers in this way. The agreement is an important step that will support the development of our long-standing partnership with the VimpelCom, optimise operator costs and improve network efficiency for the benefit of customers in Russia.
