Nawras Chief Technical Officer tells broadband success story at Broadband World Forum MEANawras Chief Technical Officer, Wolfgang Wemhoff recently spoke at the Broadband World Forum MEA in Dubai where he joined an impressive speaker line up of more than 70 industry experts.  Addressing the international delegates, Wemhoff spoke about the tremendous growth of broadband in the Sultanate of Oman that has led to a rapid increase in the numbers of customers benefitting from the pleasingly different services offered by Nawras.
During his presentation on the challenges and opportunities of delivering broadband in Oman, Wemhoff highlighted the incredible 250{e1f18614b95d3cd6e4b3128e1cd15d99b042a60a5a19c19b7a8e07e7495efa10} increase in Nawras Home Broadband customers from 2010 to 2011. Offering a plug and play, same day broadband internet service with free voice line, Nawras is now covering 87{e1f18614b95d3cd6e4b3128e1cd15d99b042a60a5a19c19b7a8e07e7495efa10} of Omani households with   WiMAX technology. This is way ahead of its licence commitment to provide broadband coverage to just over 80{e1f18614b95d3cd6e4b3128e1cd15d99b042a60a5a19c19b7a8e07e7495efa10} of households by 2014.
Wemhoff also explained how Oman’s customer friendly communications provider has rolled out 5,000 kilometres of backbone – the majority being fibre – to cover all the major commercial hubs in the Sultanate, despite some topographic challenges.  This coverage includes the new Tilal Building Complex in Muscat which houses the Nawras Campus and is the largest fully fibred building in the country.
Nawras is currently demonstrating 4G LTE at the Muscat Grand Mall, part of the Tilal Building Complex.  Mall visitors can test the online gaming set up in order to experience the superfast download speeds and low latency.
Today, with its 2G, 3G, WiMAX and fibre technology, Nawras is delivering an extensive portfolio of pleasingly different mobile and fixed services to support an ever-growing number of customers.  These include major businesses and government entities like the national carrier Oman Air, Bank Dhofar, the Oman Airports Authority and the Ministry of Finance.
