O3b Networks today announced a multi-year, multi-million dollar agreement with AMRTUR Corporation Sdn. Bhd. based in Brunei, to provide private high-speed, satellite-delivered internet to various industries with a particular focus on oil and gas activities in Brunei Darussalam as well as to other regional clients, in a strategic business alliance with Datastream Technology (DST), the leading mobile telecommunication service provider. A single O3b beam will be deployed to cover the 200 oil rigs and other Services currently using microwave or expensive traditional satellite systems in and around Brunei Darussalam.
A technology innovator, AMRTUR will be able to offer its customers – which include all oil and gas operators as well as service providers in Brunei Darussalam and regional operators – private high-speed internet and VoIP. Furthermore, AMRTUR is the first local company in Brunei to venture successfully into Integrated Intelligent Smart Well System (IISW) technologies for down hole pressure, and distributed temperature measurements. As Brunei drilling rigs and service providers operate advanced Instrumentation and Enterprise applications, they will generate huge volumes of data that need to be processed on a real-time basis and an efficient mechanism for transporting data will be required. O3b connectivity is the ideal solution to meet this demand.
“We are proud and pleased to be a customer of O3b and look forward to achieving many great things together in the region. This agreement with O3b will enable us to push our oil and gas technology offering even further by supplying private high-speed internet connectivity to the oil & gas drilling rigs and related services which support their daily operations in the Brunei Darussalam and regional territorial waters,” said, Lt Col (B) Mahmod Yakop, Founder & Managing Director of AMRTUR Corporation Sdn. Bhd. “The project is a significant milestone to AMRTUR’s contribution to His Majesty Government of Brunei Darussalam’s in nation building and the realization of Vision 2035.”
“We are delighted to announce AMRTUR as our second customer serving the oil and gas industry. This is a growing and very exciting market for us and we look forward to seeing our connectivity in action on board the many oil and gas platforms it will serve” said Steve Collar, Chief Executive Officer, O3b Networks. “With O3b satellite connectivity, AMRTUR will continue to lead the way in technology innovations in Brunei Darussalam and be recognized more and more as an enabler of systems currently not possible because of the lack of high-speed internet connectivity.”
