Omantel announces new appointments of COO and CFO

Omantel, the pioneering integrated telecom services provider, is pleased to announce the appointment of Samy Ahmed Al Ghassany as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Talal Said Al Mamari as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
These appointments come as the Sultanate’s telecom giant continues to make steady growth and leads the market through introduction of innovative products and diversification into related businesses.
Commenting on these appointments, H.E Engineer Sultan Hamdoon Al Harthi Chairman of Omantel Board of Directors said “These new appointments will bring further momentum to the realization of Omantel vision and objectives as we continue to lead the market and expand our business locally and regionally and are in-line with regional and international benchmarks in telecom industry”.

In his position as the COO, Mr. Al Ghassany will be responsible for commercial and technical operations of the Company.  He will be leading the commercial teams such as marketing, sales and customer care that serve all of Omantel customers including consumers, businesses and domestic and international telecom service providers. Samy’s main goal will be to lead these teams in serving the Company’s customers with state of the art services and solutions to ensure Omantel’s market leadership and its contributions to the growing telecommunications sector in the Sultanate.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Al Ghassany held the position of VP – Integrated Technology Unit, and was instrumental in modernizing Omantel’s network with the next generation switching and IP transmission systems, streamlining network operations as well as enabling the introduction of a number of innovative telecommunications services and solutions.
In his 20 years career at Omantel, Mr. Al Ghassany also held a number of other senior executive positions in marketing, product development, project management. And corporate governance.
Mr. Al Ghassany is a member of the Board of World Call Ltd (Pakistan) and Chairman of the Board of Oman Data Park LLC.
Mr. Al Ghassany holds a Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems from the University of Detroit, Mercy, U.S.A.
Talal Al Mamari, in his position as the CFO, will be responsible for driving the Company’s financial strategy for sustaining and growing shareholder value.
Mr. Al Mamari will be responsible for leading the financial activities of Omantel, including mergers and acquisitions, driving the Company’s financial performance, maintaining investor relations, and ensuring that appropriate governance, policies and procedures are in place to protect the financial position of the Company and minimize business risks.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Al Mamari held the position of VP – Finance.  In this capacity he streamlined the financial operations of the Company, and significantly enhanced Omantel’s image in the investment community with his candid and transparent approach.
In his 20 year career at Omantel, Mr. Al Mamari held a number of other senior executive positions in Finance and was Instrumental in developing and implementing Finance function restructuring and played a key role in a successful IPO (Initial Public Offer) and post implementation transformation.
Mr. Al Mamari is a Vice Chairman of the Boards of the Info Line LLC, member of United Finance GCC Equity Fund Board, and is also the Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Board of World Call Ltd (Pakistan).
Mr. Al Mamari holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting) degree from Duquesne University, U.S.A.
