Qtel held a special Ghabqa celebration recently, bringing employees from across the country and around the world together to spend time and reflect on the challenges and opportunities of the year so far.
One of the highlights of the event was a special ceremony which saw participants in the Refaq programme rewarded for their support for the initiative. Refaq – a volunteer-driven programme which has seen teams refurbish dilapidated houses – has brought together a total of 70 volunteers, who have taken part in repairing and restoring homes, and distributing special vouchers to needy families.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohamed bin Saud al-Thani, chairman of Qtel said: “These young people are an inspiration to us all. They have given time, imagination and effort to creating a more pleasant environment and have made a distinct contribution to the community. We thank them for their support of the Refaq programme, and believe they will go on to do great things for Qatar.”
Sheikh Abdullah also spoke about the strong work being undertaken by Qtel to encourage Qatarisation, both in its domestic operations and across its regional footprint.
The company launched the Qatari Technical Trainee Exchange Programme in February 2012, and the “Me and My Company” mentor programme in July to support its wider efforts to recruit, develop and retain the best in Qatari talent.
Encouraging good deeds has been one of the major themes of Qtel’s Ramadan campaign in 2012, and the company has launched a wide range of charitable initiatives and special promotions designed to bring people closer together.
The “Alkhair” (Goodness) campaign from Qtel is designed to encourage Good Deeds during the Holy Month. The company has offered a series of special promotions, including the best-ever Mobile Internet rate, to help people connect with friends and family.
During the Ghabqa event, Qtel screened a new film that highlighted the wide range of community activities that Qtel has supported in 2012, including its ongoing work with schools, local sports groups and community initiatives.
Sheikh Abdullah concluded: “Qtel is committed to making the lives of our customers better, through our new products, through better service and by investing in the community to bring the best possible experience for everyone.”
