Qtel to promote healthier living with marathon

Qtel yesterday announced the first annual Qtel Doha Marathon, an event designed to encourage more people to get involved in sport and to raise money for worthy causes.
Hundreds of runners, Qtel employees and members of the public, are expected to participate in the first edition of the run, which will take place in January 26.
The first Qtel Marathon will feature 10km and half-marathon (21.1km) runs along the Corniche, with plans to expand the race to include a full marathon in 2014.
Qtel is sponsoring the run as part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility and in support of the wider vision to improve health across the community by engaging more people with sport.
Funds raised by entry fees to the Qtel Marathon will be donated to a range of worthy charities in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.
On January 26, the run on the Corniche will start at the Museum of Islamic Art and continue through to the Sheraton Doha Resort and Convention Hotel.
This run will help to build excitement for the inaugural full-length Qtel Marathon in January 2014. Qtel is expecting hundreds of the region’s top runners to sign up for the Qtel Marathon in 2014, which will be 42.195km and will become an annual event in Qatar.
In addition to its support for the Qtel Marathon, Qtel sponsors a wide range of team and individual sporting events on the annual Qatar National Sports Day. Qtel has also supported major sporting events including the Qatar Football Association’s annual The Emir Cup, the Arab Games 2011 and the Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup 2011.
