Qualcomm, OTVentures tie up for MENA mobile apps, content

Qualcomm and Orascom Telecom, Media & Technology (OTMT) affiliate OTVentures plan to collaborate on projects to produce mobile content and applications across the MENA region, with a particular focus on Egypt, CommsMEA reported. The two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on developing Egypt’s mobile ecosystem by increasing the availability of value-added services, including apps and content created for local consumers.
The MoU identifies key areas in which Qualcomm can provide OTVentures with technology assistance, mainly software development tools, as well as areas for potential collaboration in providing technology and services to retail consumers.
Jihad Srage, Qualcomm’s senior vice president and president of Middle East, Africa and Central Asia operations, said there is significant demand amongst consumers in the region for more localised and relevant apps and more content to be made available on their smartphones.
