Nawras Beach Football Tournament scores big with players and spectators

After two days of intense competition and great sportsmanship, the second Nawras Beach Football tournament came to a close with Sayma Sky emerging victorious. Nawras CEO, Ross Cormack congratulated the delighted winners and presented them with the first prize trophy and cheque. Over the weekend, 64 teams took part in the tournament as crowds gathered on Shatti Al Qurum beach to enjoy the high speed football action and excitement in a two day festival of sporting entertainment.
Anwar Salim Al Habsi, Nawras Events & Sponsorship Specialist, said, “This has been an incredible tournament full of great goals and spectacular skills. The thrilling final was a fitting way to complete the event. Our congratulations go to the winners and every player who has taken part. They all deserve great credit for making this a fantastic and memorable occasion.”
Speaking after his team’s victory, team captain Shaikhan Al-Aghbari said, “The tournament has been an amazing experience and we are really happy to win the grand prize. Football is our passion, we play whenever we can and Nawras has given us an opportunity to test ourselves against others who share our love of the game. Every team we have faced was strong and the final in particular was tough so we are all the more delighted to have won the tournament. We would like to thank Nawras for organising this great event.”
After the fiercely contested final, team Al Jissar were named runners up with Al Hilal finishing third. Fayadh Al Salmi achieved the title of top scorer having put the ball into the back of the net five times. The event drew hundreds of spectators who enjoyed the football action and entertainment including a traditional Omani musical performance.
Football is the number one sport in Oman and Nawras, a Qtel Group company, is a keen supporter by sponsoring the Oman National Team and taking part in a number of community initiatives to promote the game.
