Indosat Ooredoo launches 5G services in Jakarta

Indosat Ooredoo has announced the launch of commercial 5G services in Jakarta to power the 5G revolution in Indonesia and accelerate the Jakarta’s digital transformation and smart city vision.

The new 5G services will provide Indosat Ooredoo’s consumer and business customers with access to enhanced mobile broadband Internet that will help to accelerate Jakarta’s economic recovery and supporting industry 4.0 era. 5G services will empower a wide range of unique use cases that offer the potential to revolutionize the city’s manufacturing industry, public services, healthcare sector and meet growing demand for digital content and entertainment services over mobile networks.

Indosat Ooredoo’s President Director and CEO, Ahmad Al-Neama, announced the launch of 5G at an event in Jakarta attended by leading dignitaries, including Governor of Jakarta, Anies Baswedan and Director General of Resources and Equipment of Post and Information Technology, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Ismail. Strict health and social distancing protocols were enforced throughout the event.

5G offers high internet speeds and low latency and this empowers a wide range of unique use cases spanning all industries and applicable for business and consumer customers. Some of the most advanced use cases include connected cars and in-car entertainment services; smart surveillance technologies such as drones and smart CCTV; smart electricity that automatically detects faults in household circuits; healthcare applications that involve remote monitoring; and entertainment applications such as mobile HD video, 360 video and virtual reality. The launch of Indosat Ooredoo’s 5G service in Jakarta, which shows several use cases, involving strategic partners such as Ericsson, Qualcomm, Indocyber, SONAR, Sari Technology x Gunadharma University, Bosch, and MPS.

To continue Indonesia 5G revolution, Indosat Ooredoo plans to extend the commercial roll-out of 5G services to other major cities in Indonesia, including, Surabaya, and Makassar, where there is high consumer demand for data services.
