The delegation of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport and the Space Agency of Azerbaijan – Azercosmos is participating in the 73rd International Astronautical Congress held in Paris, France on September.

The congress organized by the International Astronautical Federation once a year brings together representatives of the global space industry.

The congress was attended by space technology manufacturers, government representatives of countries where this field is developed, state and non-governmental organizations, international institutions, representatives of prestigious research and development centers, scientists and cosmonauts in the field of astronautics.

Our country is represented in Paris by “IAC 2023 Baku” and Azercosmos stands. At the stands, it was reflected the history of the development of the space field in Azerbaijan, the space programs implemented in our country, the projects implemented in order to increase knowledge and skills in this field, as well as information about the history, culture and tourism opportunities of Azerbaijan.

In addition to Azercosmos, the European Space Agency, the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the space organizations of the Great Britain, the United Arab Emirates, India, Japan, Germany and other states are represented in the exhibition pavilion.

At the opening ceremony held today, there were panel speeches about the experience of state and private companies, developing countries in the field of space, their development path, as well as innovations in the world satellite industry, the use and possibilities of small-sized satellites in the application of innovative technologies for research and development.

The International Astronautical Congress is held in Paris for the fourth time in its 73-year history. In the process of organizing the event, activities in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and environmental protection standards were applied for the first time at the congress organized by the French National Space Research Center (CNES). These include activities that reduce carbon emissions and pollution, and improve energy and resource efficiency.

The Congress will keep space innovations on the agenda this week with round-table discussions, round table meetings, interactive sessions and rich programs such as round-trip missions to Mars and the Moon, the contribution of the James Webb Space Telescope to humanity, and the Global Networking Forum.

The participation of Azercosmos in this congress is an indication of the rapid continuation of the preparation process for the 74th International Astronautical Congress, which will be hosted by the city of Baku in 2023. Also, the Paris congress is important in terms of inviting the international space community to the event to be held in Baku next year. The congress to be held in our country will open up new opportunities in terms of further development of the ecosystem of the space sector, instilling the importance of space in future generations and contributing to new initiatives in the space field in our country.

It should be recalled that on October 25, 2019, during the elections of the International Astronautical Federation held in Washington, the capital of the United States, the city of Baku won the right to host the International Astronautical Congress in 2023. The congress, held for the first time in 1950 in Paris, is considered the most prestigious space event in the world.
