Thuraya and Quicklink Set to Showcase Innovative and Cost-Effective Broadcast Solutions at IBC 2012

Thuraya Telecommunications Company and the innovative UK-based solution provider Quicklink, will feature technologically advanced, easy-to-use, cost-effective voice and data solutions for the broadcast and media sectors at the upcoming IBC 2012 conference for the electronic media and entertainment industry.
One of several cutting-edge broadcast solutions on display will be the
Thuraya IP Quicklink solution, which operates by combining the company’s industry leading Thuraya IP terminal with the Quicklink broadcast solution. Thuraya IP is the only satellite broadband modem that features ‘Asymmetric Streaming’, which allows users to adjust uplink and downlink speeds based on their usage, resulting in cost savings of up to 40{e1f18614b95d3cd6e4b3128e1cd15d99b042a60a5a19c19b7a8e07e7495efa10} when compared to other solutions available in the market.
Thuraya’s Vice-President of Marketing, T. Sanford Jewett says, “Thuraya IP is a portable, powerful satellite modem. It is the core for our high-performance media solutions designed with the end-user in mind.”
Thuraya offers enhanced IP services by routing streaming traffic from its earth station in the UAE to one of two strategic Points of Presence (POP) in London or Singapore, which in turn can have dedicated links directly to the production studio.  These dedicated circuits result in faster streaming, optimized upload/download speeds, and highly consistent performance, enabling Thuraya’s media customers to deliver time sensitive video from the field to the studio without delay.
When combined with the Quicklink solution, the Thuraya IP terminal enables seamless live video broadcasting at optimized speeds over Thuraya’s satellite network. This enables reporters in the field to break the news as it unfolds.
Richard Rees, Chief Executive Officer of Quicklink says, “By bonding two Thuraya IP terminals over Quicklink, streaming speeds can be significantly increased to 512 Kbps, whereby voice clarity and picture quality are further enhanced.” Mr. Rees adds, “With this combination, the entire user experience is amplified and our customers can fully utilize the outstanding streaming quality and enjoy its benefits. We expect that the media industry will be thrilled with the superb quality which helps deliver an enhanced communications experience.”
Added Jewett, “Members of the broadcast media community can always rely on Thuraya for the most innovative, high-quality, and good value solutions so they are able to efficiently deliver the news to their global audiences. Our satellite network dynamically caters for increasing demand in hotspots and assigns the required resources accordingly..”
At IBC, Thuraya will be showcasing its MediaComms solutions to the broadcast and media industry as well as promoting several of its voice and data solutions including the Thuraya XT-DUAL, which is the world’s only dual-mode satellite/GSM phone.
