Experience Center provides a glimpse of the connected future

At the 2011 Mobile World Congress, Nokia Siemens Networks will welcome the communications world to its Experience Center where it will showcase its latest innovations in technology, business processes and services. The Experience Center will host leaders from the internet and telecoms sectors, as well as other industries such as energy, to highlight how revenue-generating services can be effectively delivered, remotely, to people, companies and machines.
“We’ve made great progress in the past year, and Mobile World Congress is a chance to show off both our successes and the exciting new developments we can expect through 2011,” said Barry French, head of marketing and corporate affairs at Nokia Siemens Networks. “We’re building on our lead in smart networks to highlight what our customers can do to generate new revenue with greater efficiency across their business.”
The Experience Center is divided into four main themes: trends, insight, agility and smart delivery. Within these themes, Nokia Siemens Networks is highlighting its leadership in a number of areas such as LTE including the increasingly important TD-LTE, the cloud domain, managed services including energy solutions and customer experience.
In the mobile broadband area, Nokia Siemens Networks will be highlighting both its technology – such as the 10 Gbps Flexi Multiradio 10 and Flexi Lite Base Stations, Smart WLAN and LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation – as well as its unique end-to-end approach to Smart Networks, from access to data transport and core. An industry leader in LTE with 31 commercial contracts to date, the company is partnering with China Mobile at the event to demonstrate TD-LTE, a standard it expects to be of increasing importance globally. The role of HSPA+ in evolving mobile broadband services will also be demonstrated with data calls at 168Mbps, the fastest in the industry.
New work in the cloud domain will be on show, including: a telco asset marketplace that allows operators to provide developers access to their assets, such as charging and billing capabilities, to launch new services; a messaging portal that provides operators with a new platform for messaging services using social media channels; a connectivity trading marketplace that helps operators to sell and buy connectivity and capacity on-demand; and a machine-to-machine platform based on cloud.
The company’s work on Smart objects extends connectivity beyond people to the “Internet of things” to show how domestic and industrial devices can be connected and controlled remotely. Within the fastest growing fields – energy, health and security – tele-operation and tele-presence make the remote monitoring and operation of distant objects a reality, bringing improved efficiency and sustainability to these sectors. Applications include smart transport and traffic management for cities; smart energy metering and e-mobility for electric vehicles.
“With over 20 different demonstration areas and the launch of nine new products and services, we have a something to grab the imagination of any telecoms operator – in fact any organization that could exploit the remote connections between devices to offer new services or operate more efficiently,” said French.
