Operators Can Leverage New Breed of Cardless Security for Low-cost Set-tops Boxes
Enabling Broader Penetration of Digital TV Services
Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, and ALi Corporation, a leading set-top box (STB) system-on-chip (SoC) solution provider, today announced that the M3383 and M3603 advanced security conditional access (CA)-enabled STB SoC solutions are now available with hardened Verimatrix ViewRight® STB for DVB client security. The integrated software and hardware security solution provides digital TV operators with a range of cardless DVB conditional access options that open up new revenue opportunities in price-sensitive regions.
Verimatrix will be on hand to discuss the opportunities of this new breed of cardless security at ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium, March 8-11 at booth #14.
The ALi M3383 and M3603 chipsets, unveiled at IBC 2010, are targeted for the digital TV market in emerging regions where cost – and piracy – are major priorities for operators. The chipsets offer a low-cost platform that features all the major subsystems required to implement digital STB for satellite, terrestrial, cable or IPTVs.
ViewRight STB for DVB is a robust package of portable embedded code that implements the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) for DVB security functions within each STB in a digital TV system. ViewRight STB code has been designed to integrate with native hardware support for cryptographic and secure storage functions present in the advanced subsystems available on SoC devices, but present a standardized set of uniform revenue security interfaces to STB middleware.
The integration of ViewRight STB architecture and ALi SoC security features enables a uniquely competitive cardless DVB security implementation that can dramatically reduce deployment costs of digital TV networks.
“There is a huge market demand for set-top boxes that specifically address the needs of operators in India, Asia, Latin America and other emerging regions. Fully integrating Verimatrix’s hardened security onto our line of digital TV SoCs meets those needs and provides ultimate freedom of choice for operators,” said Tony Chang, vice president of the International Business Unit at ALi Corporation. “Verimatrix’s software-based protection heritage brings valuable expertise in cardless security.”
Verimatrix’s software-based client offers best-of-breed content and revenue protection in a hardened implementation that incorporates signing, multiple levels of integrity checking, obfuscation and other advanced security features, such as control word and card sharing protection mechanisms.
“Our partnership with ALi builds on our world-class partner ecosystem to offer a new approach to DVB conditional access,” said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer at Verimatrix. “Our advanced technology offers compelling, cost-effective and secure set-top box choices for operators that no longer want to be bound to outdated smart cards.”
