Turkey’s leading fixed-line operator, Türk Telekom, has introduced the sale of Motorola’s Xoom tablet PCs in Turkey, its top executive said on Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference in Istanbul, Gökhan Bozkurt, CEO of Türk Telekom, 50 percent of which is owned by the Dubai-based Oger Telecom and 30 percent by the Turkish Treasury, with the remainder traded on the Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB), said their cooperation with Motorola Xoom is the “product of furthering their approach of convergence.”
The tablet PCs to be put on the Turkish market by Türk Telekom and Motorola use a Google Android 3.0 platform. The devices have cameras on both sides and a 10.1-inch HD screen. As part of a campaign that will run until Sept. 31, Türk Telekom clients can purchase the device by paying TL 55 a month for three years. Those who choose to pay the price in two years are required to pay equal monthly installments of TL 79. There are currently 5,000 devices for sale at Türk Telekom agencies across Turkey.
