GSMA pushes for Taiwan tilting its focus towards LTE

Taiwan have been focusing more on Wimax manufacturing. The GSM Association calls for Taiwan abandoning its Wimax focus and shift it to LTE and HSPA.
As per the report published by the industry body, LTE technology generated revenue in Taiwan will soon top the revenue earned from the Wimax sector.
The GSMA estimates that LTE backed by global adoption will generate $934 million for the economy of Taiwan, in comparison to $100 million from Wimax.
The report also says that in view of the smaller market size in terms of demand size, shifting the focus to the manufacturing of HSPA and LTE equipment rather than Wimax equipment will eventually prove to be in Taiwan’s interest.
Given the lower global demand for Wimax, it has not served the government’s plans well in terms of stimulating the economy by becoming the largest exporter of Wimax products.
According to GSMA Asia Pacific senior director Jaikishan Rajaraman, the government should instead be offering the aid to LTE equipment producers.
Taiwanese operators are known to be eager to deploy LTE. In addition, LTE adoption forecasts that it will exceed 2.5 million by 2015, as per the report
