USA carriers want the government to free up the radio spectrum below 3 GHz

CTIA is the wireless industry trade body in the USA. The institution has written an open letter to the President of the US in a bid to ask his leadership to direct the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and release unused and underutilized government spectrum bands below 3 GHz.
A number of the carrier members of the CTIA who stand for above 92 percent of the wireless customers across the US, are the signatories of the letter.
The concerned carrier members have asked President Obama by way of the letter to direct the NTIA, the body that manages spectrum holdings on behalf of the government, to release cleared, paired and internationally-harmonized bands below 3 GHz. For resident Obama’s Wireless Initiative and the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) National Broadband Plan to realize its vital objectives, freeing up the spectrum in these bands is critical.
Earlier the CTIA had asserted with regard to the economists’ view that, for every dollar invested in wireless Internet, another $7-10 will be created for the country’s GDP. President Obama along with a number of Members of Congress, the FCC and other policymakers are known to strongly support the auction of unused and underused spectrum to ensure its highest and optimum use.
