IBM has announced the formation of a new lab that will focus on services software and analytics.
The Services Innovation Lab (SIL) will comprise 200 IBM experts, working in multiple locations worldwide, with a brief to develop the use of real-time analytics and software automation for use in IBM’s services business.
The lab will initially focus in four areas, initial focus on cloud, advanced analytics, service delivery automation and enterprise mobilization and ‘smarter planet’, with the aim of taking the intellectual property and expertise gained by IBM in client engagements, and using it create software solutions to enhance future engagements.
“Our singular focus is to help our clients capitalize on technologies that solve problems and create new possibilities,” said Mike Daniels, senior vice president and group executive, IBM Services. “Creation of the Services Innovation Lab demonstrates how we at IBM differentiate our capabilities vs. competition. We harness the best of what IBM research and development can deliver in science and engineering to help our clients be more innovative.”
The lab will be part of IBM’s 10-year-old services research programme. IBM currently employs some 3,000 researchers worldwide, and spends $6 billion per year on R&D.
