Nawras wins Best Innovation in HR at Asia’s Best Employer Brand Awards in Singapore

Nawras, Oman’s customer friendly communications provider, is delighted to have won the award for Best Innovation in HR, at Asia’s Best Employer Brand Awards held recently in Singapore. Ayesha Al-Shoily, Nawras Graduate and Soft Skills Manager, accepted the award which recognised the pleasingly different HR strategy that is an important part of the way the Nawras family works.
Since Nawras launched in 2005, the company has placed great emphasis on its people, their training and development.  Beginning as a mobile company with around 250 people, Nawras today is a publicly listed, full services telecommunications company with over 1,100 family members.
“Almost 800 entries from across Asia were scrutinised by the 11 judges so this award is testament to the tremendous work that has been invested by our HR team as part of the successful growth of the Nawras family,” said Kumail Al-Moosawi, Director of People. “Investment in our people is one of our main success factors. We are thrilled to receive this recognition because we believe that Nawras people are key to our pleasingly different customer service.”
Earlier this year, the company had the pleasure of welcoming an additional 134 trainees and their enthusiasm combined with the company’s customer friendly culture is further enhancing the service provided to Nawras customers.  Many of these newest family members are now working in customer facing roles where they are helping to personalise the face of the company.
“Nawras people are our most important asset,” said Chief Executive Officer Ross Cormack, as he warmly congratulated the HR team members. “I never tire of saying that we are in the people business, which may sound surprising but it is true.  When we look after our people well, they look after our customers and in turn, our customers look after our shareholders.”
The Best Innovation in HR award took into account the importance Nawras places on training.  One such programme that is proving particularly productive is the UK’s Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).  Over 40 family members have already graduated and more are due to complete this course by October. ILM qualifications develop the knowledge and skills of leaders and help Nawras to ensure it stays at the cutting edge in terms of people as well as products and services.
In 2010, Nawras introduced its graduate programme called Ruwaad Al-Nawras which is fast tracking talented Omanis by giving them in depth specialised training to become the telecommunications professionals of the future.  The programme is designed to develop potential Nawras leaders who are fully equipped to take on challenges and contribute to the continuing growth of the company.
Nawras has previously received other awards also recognising the HR strengths of the company.  These accolades include the Strategic Leadership Award presented at the Global HR Excellence Awards, Asia’s Best Employer Brand Award from CMO Asia and Middle East Best Career and Skill Path awarded by INSIGHTS.
With a mission to be the best communications provider and employer of choice in Oman, Nawras, a member of the Qtel Group, will continue to strive for excellence in training, developing and caring for its people to ensure that customers always benefit from friendly, professional, pleasingly different service.
