Int'l Carrier Partners Meet of NT begins

The two-day International Carrier Partners´ Meet (ICPM) being organized by Nepal Telecom (NT) kicked off today with participants from 25 different carrier partners of 16 countries attending the meet. With plans to expand business with International Carrier, NT is organizing the meet for the first time in Nepal.
At present, NT partners with 30 carriers and this number is 25 percent more than that of the previous year. Along with the increment, NT has also experienced a 25 percent growth in incoming traffic during this period.
Inaugurating the meet, Minister of Information and Communications Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta said the government has given highest priority to the development of telecommunications and the broadband Internet services.
Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) and NT Chairman Shree Dhar Gautam said a common model of partnership with international carriers can help telecom companies to optimize their resources and strengthen their efficiency helping the business to growth and maximize the revenue.
He said, “The growth rate of incoming traffic from abroad is positive and we are confident that it will grow further with the support of our international partners.”
Speaking at the inaugural session, newly-appointed Managing Director of NT Amar Nath Singh said that NT was in the process of establishing new International Gateway Exchange with Time-Division Multipexing (TDM) and Internet Protocol (IP) connections.
“This will be installed in two different locations for space diversity – one in the capital and the other in Butwal,” he said.
He also unveiled NT´s plan to establish Point of Presence (POP) in Europe and America in near future. NT has already operated its first international POP in Singapore last May and POP in Honk Kong and Qatar and underway to facilitate international telecommunication business.
NT plans to distribute 1.7 million GSM lines, 0.38 million CDMA lines, 28 thousand PSTN lines and 46,000 ADSL lines.
