Huawei Teams Up With Atlético de Madrid in their Derby Match Against Real Madrid

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, has teamed up this week with renowned Spanish football club Atlético de Madrid for a sponsorship pact during the team’s “Derbi Madrileño” (Madrid Derby) match against top-seeded club Real Madrid at the Vicente Calderón Stadium on April 11. The agreement marks the first sports sponsorship for Huawei in Western Europe as the company celebrates 10 years of operations in Spain and the continued growth of its consumer device portfolio.
“We are thrilled to sponsor Atletico de Madrid, a football club with a long path and an enviable list of achievements, during this match between two of the most popular football teams in the world,” said Walter Ji, General Manager Huawei Spain and Portugal. “These sponsorship activities are a great way for us to share our passion for excellence whilst providing people across the globe with an opportunity to learn more about our brand’s innovations within the consumer electronics market.”
Within the Middle East, Huawei has recently seen strong sales of its smartphone and tablet offerings particularly in countries such as UAE, KSA and Qatar, where its flagship product lines are competing at the top end of the consumer electronics market. From its early beginnings as a company selling ICT devices to large business, Huawei Device has evolved into a global consumer brand that today sells products directly to millions of people around the world.
“The Atlético de Madrid is one of Spain’s most valued brands, which is developing an important plan of internationalization. Within this context, the Atlético de Madrid aims to reach agreements with global leading companies,” said Enrique Cerezo, President of Atlético de Madrid. “Huawei makes a great partner as it is a leading international technology company with a wide presence in Spain. We are very proud of this agreement in the Atlético de Madrid.”
As of the end of 2011, Huawei Device’s total global sales revenue exceeded US $6.8 billion with an increase of 50{e1f18614b95d3cd6e4b3128e1cd15d99b042a60a5a19c19b7a8e07e7495efa10} year-on–year including over 150 million units shipped.  In recent years Huawei Device has become a leader in home devices and mobile broadband, and has launched a line of premium flagship smartphones including the Ascend P1 and the Ascend G300.
