Etisalat Group and Huawei deepen partnership at Annual Strategic Summit

 Etisalat Group and Huawei have outlined several initiatives to deepen their shared commitment towards improving people’s lives and enabling more communities in the Middle East to benefit from technological process by opening the path towards 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT) through a new Joint Innovation Lab.

The plans were unveiled recently during the annual Etisalat-Huawei Summit 2015 held in Abu Dhabi under the theme of “Aspire Forward, Win the Future Together”. The strategic summit was led by Mr. Ahmad Julfar, Etisalat Group CEO, and Ms. Sun Yafang, Chairwoman of the Board of Huawei, with a number of senior business heads in attendance.

Amongst the major outcomes of the summit was the unveiling of a new Joint Innovation Lab being planned between Etisalat Group and Huawei in the UAE. The Lab follows a series of recent memorandum of understanding signed between Etisalat Group and Huawei to bring technology firsts to the region. The Lab’s mandate will be to explore and deploy super-speed 5G mobile broadband services in the region, as well as create a joint research and development framework to investigate how IoTapplications can be adopted in various industries to enhance business efficiency and lead to smarter public services.

During the summit, the two companies also reviewed their long-term outlook for the ICT sector, as well as their priorities leading up to the year 2020. Amongst the focus themes for this year’s summit were strategic alignments on: “Digital Services” including video and IoT applications; “Agile Operations” to improve the user experience and digitize business operations; and a “Network 2020” vision that covers the development of 5G mobile broadband, software-defined networking (SDN), and network-function virtualization (NFV) technologies.

This year’s Summit theme underscores both companies wider recognition of changing consumer behaviors around the globe, encompassed by a greater preference for Real-time, On-demand, All-online, DIY, and Social services.

The latest Joint Innovation Lab follows more than a decade of collaboration between Etisalat Group and Huawei, tapping into Huawei’s end-to-end ICT solutions portfolio in telecom and enterprise networks, consumer devices and cloud computing. This has included a joint effort to deploy high-speed 4G mobile broadband services in the region, as well as ultra-fast 400Gbps fiber technology aimed at offering more reliable and affordable broadband services to local homes and businesses.
