PTA orders PTCL to stop WLL and EVO 3G broadband servicesPakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has directed largest telecom operator Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) to suspend its WLL and wireless broadband services with immediate effect.

In its latest order today, PTA has termed the wireless broadband services that PTCL provides in shape of EVO 3G as illegal and has directed the company to close down all the services that are being provided by the company using illegal radio spectrum in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Multan and send a compliance report on immediate basis.

As per copy of the order as received by MORE Magazine, “Since Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has failed to comply with the para 12.1 of the enforcement order hence its Wireless Local Loop services being provided / operated in 1895 – 1900 / 1975 – 1980 MHz band in the assigned spectrum at location(s) in Karachi, Multan, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Islamabad”.

PTA has also directed all the telecom companies to withdraw any support they are extending to PTCL with reference to WLL services.

The order further states, “All LDI, LL, Mobile licensees are hereby directed to terminate telecommunication facilities extended to PTCL for provision of WLL services immediately and submit a compliance report to PTA without any delay”.

The authority has also asked Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) to suspend frequency assigned to PTCL for the said locations.
