Twitter gets decked out
Social media company purchases TweetDeck for an undisclosed sum
TweetDeck, designed by a computer programmer Iain Dodsworth, was allegedly bought for between $40m and $50m, although Twitter is keeping tight-lipped about the financial terms of the deal.
“This acquisition is an important step forward for us. TweetDeck provides brands, publishers, marketers and others with a powerful platform to track all the real-time conversations they care about. In order to support this important constituency, we will continue to invest in the TweetDeck that users know and love,” said Twitter in a statement on its official blog.
In the three years TweetDeck has been operating, it has gone from a single team member to 15 employees with millions of users around the globe.
“I am extremely happy and proud to let you know that TweetDeck has been acquired by Twitter. We completed the deal on Tuesday and are now in the process of ‘joining the flock’,” said Dodsworth in a post on the TweetDeck blog.
