Nepal Telecom-Radio Frequency Policy unveiled

In a bid to ensure the real price from the frequency distribution of the telecommunications through competitive frequency distribution provision, the government has unveiled Nepal Telecommunications Radio Frequency (distribution and pricing) Policy 2069 B.S.
The policy was unveiled to fix the price and frequency distribution for the implementation of new services including 3G and 4G and, basic telephone.
Till date, price fixing of radio frequency is being done based on Telecommunications Act 2053 BS while Radio Communications License Regulations 2049 B.S was implemented for other services.
Organizing a news conference at the Ministry of Information and Communications, Minister for Information and Communications Raj Kishor Yadav said that the new policy would ensure revenue increment and proper utilization of frequency–national resource of the state.
Minister Yadav said that quality service would be ensured through competitions among the service providers.
Secretary at the Ministry Surya Silwal said the policy was unveiled by taking supports and advices from experts. The Policy is expected to discourage the trend of holding the frequencies unnecessarily.
After the enforcement of the Policy, maximum bidding process for giving 4 G frequency license would be started, it is said.
Similarly, rate for license renew of the basic telephone service has also been fixed.
