Ooredoo, Qatar’s telecommunications operator, announced the popular Ooredoo Ride of Champions 2020 event was successfully held after a hiatus in 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ooredoo Ride of Champions 2020 took place at Ceremonial Court, Qatar Foundation, on 13 November 2020, with current government health and safety guidelines strictly enforced to protect all participants.

The annual event – organized by Qatar Cyclists Center – was designed to promote cycling as part of a healthy, active lifestyle. The 2020 ride, the fourth edition of the event, included a number of different distances from 1km for little ones to a full 137.5km ride for seasoned riders, to ensure cyclists of all ages and abilities could get involved.

Family, beginners, and youth rides were held in a secure, sheltered area around the Qatar Foundation and the Al Shaqab Arabian horse breeding area, providing a safe place in which those new to the sport and those less confident could enjoy their day, while the kids’ ride took place at Green Spine.

Proficient cyclists challenging themselves with the longer distances headed further out into the surrounding areas to take in some of Doha’s beautiful scenery as they rode.

Sabah Rabiah Al-Kuwari, Director PR at Ooredoo, said: “We’ve had a difficult year with sporting events, due to the ongoing pandemic situation, so to see so many riders out there enjoying the fresh air and our beautiful environment was refreshing and encouraging. We’re committed to supporting events such as Ride of Champions that promote a healthy, active lifestyle, both as part of our corporate social responsibility strategy and in line with our commitment to the United Nations Sustainability Goals, and we’re delighted to be able to hold such events once again. We hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did.”
