HISPASAT, the Spanish satellite telecommunications operator, has closed a multiyear renewal agreement to distribute RTVE channels in Latin America with Telefónica Servicios Audiovisuales (TSA). The range of contents that RTVE broadcasts in America through HISPASAT’s satellites includes an entire range of programs dedicated to information and entertainment which are transmitted through the TVE América SD and HD, 24 Horas HD, Star TVE HD and Clan HD television channels, as well as the RNE, RNE-3, RNE-5, Radio Clásica and RNE Radio Exterior radio stations.
This renewal also includes increased capacity contracted compared to the previous agreement, as it has incorporated the new TVE Internacional HD channel, which requires greater bandwidth. These channels can be received in all the countries throughout the region thanks to the coverage provided by HISPASAT’s satellites in the 30º West position.
From this location, HISPASAT broadcasts numerous multimedia contents to around 10,000 TV headends and more than 50 million users in Latin America, which makes it one of the leading orbital positions to distribute contents in the Ku band in the region.
For Ignacio Sanchis, HISPASAT CCO, “distributing RTVE’s multimedia channels in America is intimately linked to HISPASAT’s history. Thanks to the Hispasat 30W-1, or Hispasat 1A, satellite, the company broadcast its first transmission to the American continent in 1992. This agreement endorses our continued collaboration with TSA and strengthens the importance of the 30º West orbital position in the demanding multimedia distribution business.”
In the opinion of Francisco Panduro, TSA’s Broadcast Manager, “we are proud to continue providing RTVE the services to distribute its channels in Latin America and delighted to continue working with HISPASAT as a partner. The coverage and output provided by HISPASAT’s satellites in the 30º West position and the excellent penetration of this position in TV headends and television operators in Latin America make it the natural option to successfully distribute contents in the region.”
According to Pere Vila, RTVE’s director for Strategic Technology and Digital Innovation, “we have a long-standing relationship with Hispasat and TSA that has always been excellent. I’m happy to be able to continue relying on these important companies to distribute our channels in Latin America, especially among the broad implementation among end users located in Latin America. RTVE has also collaborated with HISPASAT on numerous technological innovation projects to improve our services and user experience.”
