Robotic missions from the Metaverse at the MWC, Alisys' bet to interconnect the physical and virtual worlds

Alisys will attend the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, held from 28 February to 3 March, with a pioneering proposal that combines the most advanced robotics, cloud computing, 5G and virtual reality to connect the physical and digital worlds.

More specifically, the Spanish company will operate Boston Dynamics’ Spot robot from the metaverse through virtual reality glasses and its robotic fleet teleoperation platform, enabling the robotic quadruped to carry out the tasks it is ordered to do from the virtual environment created in the Barcelona stand, in the company’s showroom in Gijón.

Robotic explorations in the metaverse 

Through a collaboration with the technological engineering company TSK, and its intelligent supervision and training system solution, Sixperience based on virtual reality, those attending the Alisys stand, number 5 in the Spain pavilion, will access a replica of the Alisys offices in Gijón by means of virtual reality glasses. Once the glasses are on, the user will access Alisys’ teleoperation and robotic fleet control services and will be able to see and order the four-legged Spot robot to carry out tasks. These orders will be executed at the same time by a real Spot robot at the company’s offices in Gijón. This is an opportunity to live an intuitive experience that will transport people to the metaverse in a simple way.

With these interactive projects, and based on a combination of technologies, Alisys supports the so-called Industry 4.0 digitalization by offering solutions that help to ensure safety processes, increase interconnectivity, automation, machine learning and real-time data collection, breaking down barriers between the two worlds to address smarter and more advanced explorations.

The surveillance and inspection operators of the future will be able to intuitively control robots both in the metaverse and in reality and have a much better overview of the sites to be investigated and the contingencies that may arise.

Live Spot teleoperations

Another of the demonstrations to be carried out by Alisys for this edition is the remote teleoperation of a Spot robot from Boston Dynamics, a company of which it has been a partner since 2020. It will also do so from its integrated management platform that enables global control and analysis of robotic fleets regardless of the manufacturer, including location, alarms, mission status and availability of agents and devices.

It is a very accessible platform, designed so that its use does not require great complexity and can be adapted to all types of professional profiles to direct and control explorations in all types of situations. A tool that has already been described by the Spanish Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology as having “high innovative value”.

The Jueying MiniLite quadruped and OrionStar’s social robot Minibot 

In addition to the teleoperation of the Spot robot, Alisys will be bringing some of the world’s most advanced robotic devices to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. In this regard, it will have a quadruped robot Jueying Lite from the company Deep Robotics.

Visitors to the Spain pavilion at the technology event will also be able to converse with three social robots programmed by Alisys: Furhat, which is considered the most advanced social robot in the world due to its gestures and versatility, and OrionStar’s Minibot robot, which will act as an information kiosk about Alisys’ presence at the event.
