Ilgar Abdullayev, Space Law Advisor to Chairman of Azercosmos, participates in the 63rd session of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) in Vienna.
Ilgar Abdullayev, speaking at the event, emphasized the importance of continuous development in space navigation and space activities, drawing attention to the advancement of Azerbaijan’s National Space Legislation in this field.
In 2023, the President of Azerbaijan approved new laws on the country’s space activities. These laws determine the legal, economic, and organizational bases of space activity in the Republic of Azerbaijan. They also outline the general requirements for entrepreneurial activity in the space industry and regulate relations related to national activity in outer space, including the Moon, other celestial bodies, and their orbits.
In general, discussions during the 63rd session, which was attended by representatives from 102 UNOOSA member states, covered subjects like the intersection of space and sustainable development, the impact of space on climate change, advancements in space research and innovations, and the incorporation of space technologies into the UN system.
Additionally, Azercosmos’ representative encouraged conference participants to attend the COP29 event, which will be held in Baku in November of this year.
