Huawei announced the successful conclusion of its TDD-LTE trials in India. The firm had used Aircel’s existing GSM/UMT network to carry out the trials. Huawei’s convergent end-to-end system and Qualcomm’s MDM9600 multimode chipset were put to use during the trial.
As part of this trial, a joint execution of Inter-RAT (Inter-Radio Access Technology) related cases that cover multiple live handover scenarios across GSM/UMTS/LTE technologies were carried out by Huawei and Qualcomm.
A Huawei E392 multi-mode USB dongle based on Qualcomm’s MDM9600 multimode chipset was also used during the trial.
According to Dr. Sandeep Sibal, Country Manager and Vice President-Business Development, Qualcomm India & South Asia, Qualcomm is pleased to have collaborated with Aircel and Huawei for this trial utilizing our MDM9600 multimode chipset. In addition, they are committed to establishing a strong LTE roadmap for both 3G HSPA and EV-DO operators that utilizes their existing investments to further the growth of mobile broadband in India. Meanwhile, this trial is another milestone towards their goals of developing the ecosystem for LTE TDD and accelerating the commercialization and deployment of LTE with 3G, following the LTE mobility demonstration last year.
