WiMAX rates in the Arab World: Jordan has the lowest rates, while Kuwait has the highest

In a new report, the Arab Advisors Group analyzed the residential WiMAX broadband rates in nine Arab countries (Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and UAE).
WiMAX is one of the fixed broadband technologies deployed in the Arab region. By March 2012, WiMAX networks were commercially deployed in thirteen Arab countries. The report analyzes residential WiMAX broadband rates of the 2 Mbps download offered by regional WiMAX operators as of March 2012. Some operators only offer WiMAX for corporate uses.
The Arab Advisors Group research report on regional WiMAX offerings revealed that the effective total monthly cost of residential WiMAX (for the average 2 Mbps speed) in the Arab region averages US$ 76 per month. Kuwait’s WiMAX operators offer the highest rates in the Arab region, while the lowest rates are available in Jordan.
A new report, “WiMAX Rates in the Arab World: A Regional Comparison 2012” was released to the Arab Advisors Group’s Telecoms Strategic Research Service subscribers on April 24, 2012. The 28-page report, which has 17 detailed exhibits, provides a comprehensive analysis of WiMAX residential rates offered by the main WiMAX operators in the Arab countries during March 2012. “It is noteworthy that a number of regional WiMAX operators bundle some free local VoIP minutes within their broadband plans. This is done in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.” Hussam Barhoush, Project Manager at Arab Advisors Group stated in the report.
When including the GDP per capita and GDP per household in the analysis, the Arab Advisors Group devised the WiMAX Affordability Measure (WAM). Basically, the total annual cost of WiMAX broadband in a country was calculated as a {e1f18614b95d3cd6e4b3128e1cd15d99b042a60a5a19c19b7a8e07e7495efa10} of that country’s GDP per capita and GDP per household, whereby the higher the score the less affordable the service would be in that country.
