Drop-in Center Rawalpindi (SPARC) celebrated 20th November Universal Children’s Day to highlight rights and issues of street &
working children. Chief guest of the event was Director National Child Protection Center, Islamabad. 70 participants of this event included street/working children who are currently registered, members of mother and father clubs of drop-in-center, medical doctors and civil society. Maulana Abdul Malik who is head of Maulana Association in Fauji Colony appreciated the efforts of drop-in center and offered his support for drop-in center.
The event highlighted the right of education and protection of street/working children. Children performed, participated and enjoyed the event. The success stories of children through efforts of drop-in center were shared with stakeholders , which included seven children prized who have been mainstreamed in government schools and are now they are position holders, successful children who learned stitching skills and moved from child domestic labour and those children who improved health and hygiene.
This activity remained participatory for all stakeholders and highlighted highlight rights of children. Due to services of DIC, special child was also encouraged and his family earned enough moral support to care their child. Two stalls on vocational skills and non-formal education were also displayed to encourage efforts of children. Community was also sensitized on harms of child labour and protection issues of street children.
